Children of Promise
The affiliated ministries of Lutheran Social Services offer help, healing, and hope in the name of Jesus Christ to abused, neglected, and abandoned children. Despite what would seem like an extremely bleak future for these youngsters, they are truly Children of Promise.
Lutheran Social Services have residential treatment centers that serve more than 200 abused, neglected, and abandoned boys and girls every day. They have an award winning foster care program that serves more than 2,800 children each year and an adoption program that has placed more than 7,000 children in loving, permanent homes.
Afternoon Tea
Who Invented the English Afternoon Tea?
"Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, is reputed to have originated the idea of afternoon tea in the early 1800s. She conceived the idea of having tea around four or five in the afternoon to ward off the hunger pangs between lunch and dinner. Some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread. These habits soon became a good reason for social gatherings, and started a trend that is still very much a part of British life."

Tea & Style Show 2008
On May 10th, Lady Fishers hosted the 1st Annual Afternoon Tea and Style Show. This event benefited the Children of Promise, which is a ministry of the Lutheran Social Services of the South, the largest provider of services for children living in Texas.
Our church sanctuary was transformed into a lovely tearoom. During the first half hour, our guests viewed our beautifully hostess-decorated tables. Our guests were then treated to flavorful teas and tea fare rivaling the finest tearooms anywhere. Our fashion show featured summer and resort wear from Macy’s First Colony store worn by our own, lovely Fishers of Men models. All of our guests seemed to have an enjoyable, fun filled afternoon.
A BIG "thank you!" to all who put this event together, decorated tables, modeled fashions, and especially to those who attended and supported the Lady Fishers and the Children of Promise!
